Pedicure - Do it yourself

Step 1: Removing nail polish

image First, remove any nail polish on your nails. Use any good nail polish remover applied with cotton. If color isn't coming off easily, press the soaked cotton on nails and let it soak in.

If there are any stains on nails you can use toothpaste on your nails to remove them. Generally it works. Alternatively, you can rub lemon juice or lavender oil rubbing on nails to remove yellowed outer layer.

Step 2 : Trimming and Filing Nails

Now cut your excessive nails to your desired shape. Use any good quality nail clipper. Make sure your nails doesn't extend over the tip of your toe.

If you want a soft square shape, trim nails in one direction until they are even & slightly rounded at the corners. Don't clip the sides of nails, that can cause ingrowns.

Step 3 : Soaking Your Feet

Take a large flat-bottom bowl filled with warm water. Put some bath salts, your favorite aromatherapy oils or epsom salt in it and soak your feet for not less than 10 minutes. The more cracked & calloused your feet, the longer they need to stay in.

Also you can mix a quarter cup of milk along with the essential oils & salts as the lactic acid in the milk loosens dead skin.

Step 4 : Trimming Cuticles

Use cuticle remover to the base of each nail and rub it in. Leave on for a minute, then use an orangewood stick to gently push with a circular motion everywhere where skin meets the nail. Also include the sides. Be careful to remove skin only on top of the nail and don't touch the toe flesh.

Step 5 : Scrubbing Your Feet

Apply an exfoliating body scrub or foot scrub or you can use wet pumice stone to slough away the dead skin on the balls & heels of your feet. Scrub the balls, bottoms & sides of your heels & around the toes. Keep in mind the pedicure motto, "just smooth, don't remove." If your foot turns bright red just stop, it indicates that you've scrubbed too hard. Don't worry, just stop scrubing. The nature has given tough skin there for a reason.

Step 6 : Moisturizing

Dry feet thoroughly and completely with a good towel including between the toes. Then rub and massage in a good foot cream. Rub the feet and also your calves. Also rehydrate cuticles by rubbing with a good cuticle oil.

Step 7 : Polishing Your Toes

Use acetone remover to get rid of any excess oils on the nails and also the cuticle oil you just applied. Apply a thin base coat using 3 strokes, one down the middle, then one on each side. Never paint the cuticle. Wait for a minute then add two coats of your favorite polish, then finish with a thin top coat.

Let nails dry for at least 40 minutes. After nails have dried, spritz with a moisturizing oil like SolarSpeed spray. This sets your polish & moisturizes your cuticles.

Great! Your feet are looking lovely and seductive !
